Celebrating the life of Ed Asner in his role in the UAW Campaign to Keep GM Van Nuys Open

As part of an all-star team—UAW Local 645 Pete Beltran, Assemblywoman Maxine Waters, U.S. Congressman Howard Berman, Rev. Frank Higgins of the Baptist Ministers Conference, Fr. Luis Olivares from La Placita Church, Rodolfo Acuna, father of Chicano Studies, Assemblyman Art Torres, UAW leaders Mark Masoka, Dorothy Travis, Kelly Jenco, and campaign coordinator Eric Mann—who forced General Motors to keep the GM Van Nuys Plant open for ten years more than it had planned after threatening to close the plant down in 1982

Wonderful audio clips from the brilliant documentary of the Van Nuys Struggle, Tiger by the Tail, by the gifted filmmaker Michal Goldman, that won best labor film in the New York Film Festival in 1985 and is still one of the best labor/Black/Latin@, women’s workers, political films for today’s movement.

Let’s find dedication to fight for women’s rights all over the world and to find inspiration in the UAW/Labor Community Coalition  Campaign to Keep GM Van Nuys Open also described in Eric Mann’s book, Taking on General Motors
