#TODAY ON VOICES A CELEBRATION of ART KUNKIN’S LIFE
Eric Mann will speak with Anna Kunkin, daughter of Art Kunkin, the founder and publisher of the iconic underground paper, the Los Angeles Free Press (Freep). At its height, 1964 to 1973, The Free Press had 90,000 to 100,000 subscribers, readers and double that as people “laid it” on each other. The Underground Press Syndicate and Ray Mungo and others had 600 members.
Eric, just out of prison in 1971, became a regular contributor to Boston After Dark, the Boston Phoenix, and the Boston Realpaper part of the underground press.
