Las Cafeteras in the KPFK house!

Four members of Las Cafeteras joined me in the studio – David Flores, Leah Gallegos, Hector Flores, and Daniel French – to share their exhilarating music, politics, and creativity.

Las Cafeteras comes out of East Los Angeles, formed in 2005, and fuses traditional & modern beats with stories from East LA’s streets. They are well known in L.A. for their energetic, bi-lingual performances. They combine Afro-Mexican music, also known as “son jarocho”, with hip hop, folk music, and native american sounds with a community- focused message. Las Cafeteras have opened for Lila Downs and Ozomatli. Their newest album is called It’s Time, and they have a big performance coming up on Saturday July 6, 2013 at the Ford Ampitheater.
