I’m very pleased to have back on the show, Becky Dennison and Pete White, co-directors of the Los Angeles Community Action Network, known as LA CAN.

LA CAN builds leadership among Downtown LA’s very low-income and often homeless community members, who are predominantly African American, and fights for housing and civil rights, healthy food access, women’s rights, violence prevention, and ending police abuse and harassment of this community. They are fighting on a number of campaigns that we hear about in this conversation. One urgent fight they want to share with us is a trumped up L.A. Police Department charge against an organizer during an LA CAN protest against the Safer Cities Initiative, that has militarized Downtown LA’s Skidrow.
